Welkom’s Fátima Festa: A legacy of light and devotion since 1973.
October 7, 2025Alisha Ludek, 23, from Welkom, was once a child prodigy, her angelic voice making waves in her community. After a five-year break from competitions, she recently proved that her talent and dedication remain as strong as ever. At the Goudveld-Hoërskool Taal- en Kunstefees, Alisha delivered a stunning performance, accompanied by pianist Tania Snyman.
The judges were quick to praise her voice, describing it as “sweet chocolate,” and applauded her overall presentation. Her hard work paid off with an impressive A++ certificate, scoring over 90%.
The annual festival, which is hosted in collaboration with the Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV) and Northwest University, recognizes exceptional talent, and Alisha’s performance stood out as a highlight.
Alisha’s vocal abilities were nurtured under the expert guidance of the late Tyrell Blazey and Tania Snyman, a teacher and choir singer who helped refine her skills. However, her path to musical success was not without its challenges. As a child, the intense pressure to perform led to emotional strain, and Alisha stepped away from music for a time.
It was not until recently that she rediscovered her love for singing. This time, though, her approach is different. “I used to sing for others, but now I sing for myself,” she says. This shift in perspective has allowed Alisha to reconnect with her passion and gain a renewed sense of confidence.
Now, Alisha is eager to share her music with the world, but on her own terms. Armed with her acoustic guitar and original songs she writes herself; she is ready to create music that reflects her true self, free from the pressures of the past.
