Valentyn-rolbaldag bring groot samesyn sonder mededinging
March 4, 2026Many people turn a blind eye when they hear about sewerage problems in their town. For CJ Steyn (29), a qualified plumber from Welkom, it became a call to action. Driven by a deep sense of responsibility toward his community, he approached the local authorities with an offer to help address sewerage challenges – within his means and as a service to the community.
“I have a passion for my community that goes beyond making money,” says CJ. “I want to make a change, no matter how small it may seem to others. I want to know that I did my part to contribute to society.” CJ’s sense of community is rooted in empathy and shared responsibility. He believes that when one area suffers, the entire town feels the impact. For him, blocked drains and overflowing sewerage are not just municipal issues – they affect families, children, health, and dignity. Instead of waiting for change, he chooses to be part of the solution.
His contribution goes far beyond words. CJ is donating his time and experience to assist municipal officials in clearing sewer blockages and opening drains. This work will be done after hours, allowing him to continue running his business while still giving back.
My biggest challenge is colla-boration,” he admits. “I want to work with municipal officials, because I cannot operate on infrastructure without permission. But I am more than willing to do my part to help create a cleaner and safer en-vironment for everyone.”
Despite the demands of running a business, CJ believes community comes first.
“My love for my community outweighs my passion for business. If each person does their part, imagine the world we could live in.”
